Possible causes of occasional backfiring of old BMW Motorbike? I have a '56 BMW motorbike that has started to backfire occasionally on deceleration. This ranges from a moderate pfft to a loud blap. I'm unable to find the cause maybe someone has some suggestions as to the cause. The bike itself is running the best it's ever run except for this.

Is a motorbike shop serving my motorbike ripping me off? It is a BMW K1100LT motorbike? I have a BMW K1100LT motorbike. The exhaust had to be changed and the bike shop took the exuast off and all 8 bolts where the exuast comes out of the side of the engine snapped off. The shop said they would have to be drilled out. The next thing they said they had to take the top half of the engine off to get to them. Did they have to do this or are they just ripping me off or just do not know what they are doing?

Why do people buy such big motorbikes? Im wondering why do people buy motorbikes with a huge cc like so of the harley Davison bikes are 1400cc and the Bmw 1200gs is very popular. Why do motorbikes use so much fuel? I own a SV 650s and a BMW 328i. The BMW does about 35mpg on average (well 25 if I drive it very very hard!) and my bike does about 45mpg. Surely since the bike weighs 10X less and has a far smaller engine it should do nearer 100mpg?

Which motorbike should I buy for touring; BMW or Suzuki? I have been looking around for a second hand BMW F650GS (preferably the 800cc model released in 2008), but haven't found anything within my price range yet, as I can't afford a new one. However, I stumbled across an alternative bike today that I hadn't considered; a Suzuki 650 VStrom. I have found a VStrom that is priced just under £4,000 on an '09 plate, with full touring luggage, taller screen, crash bars, belly pan, and a couple of little extras. This is within my price range and means I don't have to spend extra on getting it ready for touring. So my question is... do I buy the Suzuki now? Or do I put off touring until I can afford the BMW F650 GS? Is it worth waiting to get the GS or am I just being a snob? Any replies would be welcomed... I need some guidance on this one! I already own a BMW F650 CS, and think it's a great city bike, but would be looking at selling it to help fund my new purchase. I can easily clock up over 100 mile a day with work and do not drive a car at all (I do have a separate winter bike), so I will also have to take in to consideration the running costs of whichever bike I go for. Does that change anyone's opinion?

Can you ride a motorbike in Spain on a provisional (125cc) licence? We're looking at a trip to Mallorca to take in some mountains in the low season...only trouble is, we've both got CBTs (plus full car licences), so restricted to 125cc or less (depending on power rating) in this country. We've found bike hire places which can offer us 125s, but also BMW 650s, which sound fun, if potentially suicidal...Can anyone advise on what we can ride? Thanks for the advice - I also ride an Aprilia Pegaso 650 around the back roads, so appreciate that big bikes can be quite scary - the first time swapping from a 125 to the Aprilia left me gasping for breath. Decreasing power in a motorbike engine. Okay it sounds silly i know.? But i don't wana get to 100kmp/h (60mp/h ish) in 3 seconds. It's a bmw r1200 and a lovely bike. but..... it's to fast. I don't understand mechanics and all i thought was that it could be dangerous to do this but then i though for a few grand it probably could be done. Walking across the mall yesterday, the traffic was stopped by a police motorbike when 4 range rovers, a jaguar and 2 marked police BMW 5 series whipped past me. Who could it have been? Why do they always call me rich when I'm not? Well I'm 14 years old and at school and stuff people will just be like "oh your like loaded and stuff" when I'm not like I do live in a double story house but it's like 20 years old it's the only house we've ever built, we have a proper inground pool like with tiling, we do have a few cars but like we have 2 everyday cars ( ford explorer and just a ute) but people also think I'm rich because our explorer interior is cream leather but it's just the color we chose, and my grandparents live with me so they need a car to say they have a Mercedes and when my brother turned 18 he got a BMW but it was like 4 years old but he worked on our orchard in all his holidays and weekends and never got payed so the car payed off and we have a hot rod my dads work ute, a boat and we also have motorbikes and 2 trucks but there for our buisness, we have average sized rooms nothing special, we go to public school, we do get dear clothes but only when we need it but it's not like designer or anything just like maybe a $200 dress for a wedding or $300 pair of runners for my brothers who like do gym and footy training almost every night of the week, I live in Australia and so I've been to phucket for a holiday and this July I'm going to the states and I go to QLd like every 2 years and only because my parents are hard workers and don't get time off because we have our own buisness, and people think I'm a spoiled little girl who doesn't do anything when really every holidays I'm in the shed helping my parents pack fruit which I don't get paid for and I don't get an allouence so ofcourse my parents have to buy me clothes.
