What does one look for when buying a used boat? I am looking to buy a used boat. I dont want much, basically, I'm just looking to get in the water to do some fishing, and maybe some skiing. I know I want around 20 foot and I want a bowrider, but what sorts of things do I look for? Engine? Outdrive? The only thing I know about boats is that they float. Any advise on buying my first boat would be appreciated.
Should I finance a used boat purchase with my 0% interest rate credit card or get a loan from a bank at 10%? I am contemplating purchasing a used boat which is over 15 years old. I am looking at the best way to finance this purchase and need some input. The only loan I have is a student loan for $4K and the only credit card I have has a balance of $11K with 0% interest for the next 6 months, and then a 8% rate after that. I have a few other credit cards which send me access checks with 0% fee and interest for one year that I could use to finance the boat. I would use $11K in an access check to finance the boat at 0% interest on a second credit card which would increase my credit card debt to $22K with 0 interest for awhile and then 8% on both eventually. However, I believe I can pay off these cards before any interest kicks in. The second option is to get a boat or personal loan for the $11K and pay about 10% interest. I would intend to pay the loan as quickly as possible as well. My question is, should I finance the boat using $11K of credit card at 0% interest or get a bank loan?
Where Life Boats Ever Used on Naval Ships? My friend tells me Naval ships never had lift boats.. And I say they did if you consider there sea to shore boats that where used and I'm sure some boats today still carry inflatable boats in order to reach the shore with out docking. These boat could in turn double as life boats. Not to mention each one had an inflatable life vest. So My friend's morbid but stern opinion that naval ships never had life boat and men where just left to there deaths if a ship went down just can't be true. Or is it? Thank you all. I was on the spot and couldn't find any info on the web.. Guess I just wasn't using the right search words.. but this is proof enough.
Where to find a good used boat windshield? I need a windshield for a Wellcraft Express cruiser. The boats 29ft with a 11 ft beam. Anyone have any suggestions or know where a good boat yard is that I can get one at?
How do you prevent barnacles from attaching to alluminum pontoon boat used in salt water and brakish water? I have a new Avalon Pontoon Boat which has been in salt water for one month. I pulled it out recently and found a considerable amount of baricles attached to the pontoons and the motor. What can I use to reduce or prevent this problem. I used a pressure washer to remove as many of the barnicles from the engine and pontoons, but portions of the pontoons can not be reached while on the trailer. Even after powerwashing with straight water, there is a roughness to the pontoons. What can be done to remove the roughness and coat the pontoons.
Pratical use of automobile engines in boats ? what are the differences for rust, corrosion protection? I'm always dreaming up wild ideas, and I had one for a new breed of high performance personal watercraft - the Tube boat. I want to put a V-8 engine into a very stretched Seadoo-type watercraft, and just use a simple propeller shaft off the back of the engine, with maybe a simple clutch mechanism to engage/disengage the power to the shaft. Anyway, that all said, I know boats use automobile-type engines, but use special water-cooled exhaust manifolds, etc. What other Boaterizing is done to an automobile engine to make it into a "marine" engine? Any special gimmicks to prevent the corrosion of dissimilar metals inside the motor? If I chose to use a straight car engine, with the watercooled boat manifolds, how long would a motor last without any other mods? Obviously a boat style cooling system as well would be installed <duh>. So other than radiator, coolant, and exhaust manifolds, what else would normally be changed?
