What modifications would a 41-foot boat (Sea Ray) require in order to make a voyage from Florida to Brazil? I have been given a 41-foot Sea Ray and I plan to use it to make a cruise from Florida to Brazil. Does a boat of this size and type have sufficient cruising range to traverse the longest stretches of the voyage without refueling? If not, what modifications to the boat would be necessary in order to safely make such a voyage? Thanks!

sea ray 175 jet boat hard starting? I have a 1998 sea ray jet boat with a mercruiser sportjet 175. I added a primer bulb because it was hard to start. Still hard to start, have to prime,use throttle several times, and it still takes a while to start. fuel pressure is 4psi.any suggestions?

I have a problem with my batteries on my boat. its a 1977 Sea Ray. and i think the alternator may not be...? ...working. cause the ampers gauge shows no increase in amps when the engine is running. and i believe the batteries loose a charge throughout the day of boating. could someone with knowage what could be the problem, and if it is or not the alternater and the chances of it being that. and other possibilities of what it could be. thank you dont know if you need the type of engine but i'll give it anyway... its a Murcury 233 HP V8 (old chevy engine changed to water cooled back in the day)

I have an older model Sea Ray powered by a 454 Mercruiser. The boat runs great , it starts like a charm but if I had it runinng up on plain for a period of time and then shut it down starting would becomes extremely difficult. It eventually starts up. Can it be a problem with the choke? JB

Motor Tilt problem on 74 Sea Ray.? I recently just purchased a 74 18' Sea Ray SRV 190 with an inboard/outboard motor. When I got it the guy always told me when he had to tilt the outboard part of motor for towing he always give a boast up the rest of the way because it would go up the rest of way. Today when I pull my boat out of the lake the motor just would go up and I noticed the tilt/trim motor engine was broke. Anyways my question is this a normal problem with these old boats and What be good practice for tilting when towing an home.

Sea Ray Vs Maxum? I am in the market for a new (used) boat. I have narrowed it down to a VERY nice and loaded 1997 Maxum 240scr with almost no hrs (<100) fresh water cooled and perfect condition. Or a 1999 240 Sea Ray Sundancer with 300 hrs and base engine. Not as many options on the SR and it's about $5k more... But it's a Sea Ray. WHAT SHOULD I DO????

Updating a boat? We just bought a boat and we got a really great deal on it. It is a 1977 sea ray flybridge. It was really well taken care of. But I would really like to update the interior like the bathroom, and the bed area and a little to the sitting area and kitchen. The bathroom is really tiny and had one of those portable toilets. I would like to put a boat toilet in ther and redo the interior of it. I have noticed on alot of other boats that the bathroom interior has what almost lookes like a tub surround would look! Sorry I don't know how else to explain it! There is a tiny area for cooking, which there is not much I can do there, but I want to update the counter top of it and I would like to put in a microwave. The table area is okay but the cushions need some updating to the material. The sleeping area , I would really like to get a bed in it, like they have in newer boats. I hope I dont sound too silly! Has anyone else updated a boat, and how did you do it, and where do you find thsese parts

Does anyone out there own a bayliner 2452 or 242? If so does it handle rough water well.? I know that bayliner had problems with certain boats in the past and gained a bad reputation becouse of it. I don't want to here from someone who has not personally had a bayliner. I am currently the owner of a sea ray 220 bow rider and have owned 6 other brands of boats from 10' to 23'. I have never owned a bayliner becouse of all the horror stories. Now I here that they have fixed there problems. I cant believe that Bayliner is the worst boat out there when they sell more boats than most of the competition combined.

Is there a well built "fly bridge" boat similar in layout to the Bayliner 288? I'm wanting to purchase a used boat around 28 to 30 feet in length. I really like the lay-out and visibility from the inside of the Bayliner 288 Command Bridge but I'm hesitant to buy a Bayliner; I've read it's underpowered and poorly built. Does anyone know of a newer (late 90's or newer) boat similar in design that's reliable and has a good reputation? It seems most manufacturers that used to make a good command bridge boat in this length have replaced them with 34's or larger (Carver, Silverton, Sea Ray, etc.). I'm in Virginia so I'd like to purchase a boat that can be serviced without too much trouble. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Has Bayliner resolved some of the design flaws or does that price range of boat just have to sacrifice quality???)

My 2001 Sea Ray 185 (only 195 hrs) quits running as though it were on a timer? First of all I have a 2001 Sea Ray 185 Bow Rider with a 4.3L Mercruiser. Just recently my boat will start and idle fine, however, once I put it into drive it seems to run for a designated amount of time (10 or so seconds) then shut off. I can then start it right back up and it repeats the same problem, running for only about 10 seconds before shutting off. This would typically only occur for about 15 minutes before it would run fine in gear at full throttle etc. So because of that I attributed the problem to the motor being cold or a flooded engine. But, last week the same problem happened and after a short time it seemed to have fixed itself. I did some fishing and on the way back to the boat ramp, at nearly full throttle, the same problem started again. I was running at nearly full throttle for 5-10 minutes when all of a sudden the engine cut off. I could start it right back up but after about 10 seconds it would turn off. I had to repeat this for nearly 30 minutes as I slowly made my way back to the boat ramp, on and off; on and off. I have no idea whats going on? Please help...

1992 24ft Sea Ray 240 Advice? My wife and I are looking at this 1992 24' Sea Ray 240 Overnighter. The price is to where I can buy it outright without any financing. I am not an avid boater, probably because I dont own one :) I am somewhat familiar with them to know the basics, and this style is what we are looking for. My question(s) are: Has anyone had experience with a boat of this size and style and manufacturer (doesn't have to be 92), and what did you think of the quality and ride? When buying a boat of this age, what are some things that I should keep an eye out for? I have a compression gauge and will check it. It is single engine, 7.4L V8. I will take your advice and change the impeller first thing, along with plugs/wires and all that junk. I know engines pretty well, especially the older ones. The i/o drive is all new to me (as was the impeller) I really doubt that it has seen salt water due to the area it is in, but I will certainly find out. I doubt that we will ever take it the distance needed to get to salt water. There is a good chance that I will get it inspected if we choose to buy it. As for navigation, On LAND I am a survivalist and can navigate like a champ (which only means that I know when I am lost...lol) What that means is that I am aware that all my training with maps and compass will be worthless out on open water. 2008 Sea Ray 250 SLX - 2 Questions? ok, my dad bought one of those ^^^ (I love it so much), its got a 496 mag in it with side pipes, we are shocked however with the terrible gas mileage, i calculated it out and we get about 3 miles to the gallon. Are there any known ways to get better gas mileage? Also, we are trying to think of a name for it, My dad owns a masonry business and our old boat was called (Sandblaster). We are empty in ideas, any help would be appreciatted. we can get it to be on plane at 2800 rpm if you stick the trim and trim tabs just right, i think its 2800, not sure though. But Sandblaster original was a major piece of crappo for us, a 199something 190 Sea Ray, Fuel Pump ceased up all the time. We just sold our 1999 232 islander 455 Mag, and i cried about it. but the 496 and sidepipes makes it sound mean.

Opinions on buying first boat for family weekend use ? I want to buy a weekender boat for family use around sydney. Should there be a drain for my gas tank compartment on my boat? I have all the carpet out of the boat right now and am finding a bunch of rotted wood everywhere. It looks like any water that makes it into the gas tank compartment has nowhere to go which is why a lot of the wood is rotted. I have a 23' 1987 sea ray sorrento. How hard is it to change the transom shift cable on a 3.0L Merc? I have a 1987 Sea Ray Seville with a 3.0L Mercruiser Alpha One. I was on the water and when approaching the dock the boat got stuck in reverse. I pulled it out and noticed the shift cable outer jacket had separated from the outdrive. Cable is not broken but will not shift into forward due to lack of rigidity. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

i loaned my boat to a good friend and in 2 hours the motor was blown should i have to pay for it or should he? my boat was in great condition other than a small oil leak that i told him to check the oil before he used it i had just had it rebuilt last year and there was only 40 hrs on the motor. since the day wiich was fathers day that he borrowed it i went on a road trip to canada with him and his truck run hot he would not pull over and put water in it he drove it til it was trashed.he was still under warranty.my boat is a 79 sea ray w/ 454-pachanga and i treated it like it was a baby.i really trusted this person to take care of it but since i realized how he treated his own truck i now know he trashed my boat is there a law that if it breaks you fix it does anybody know about this and what do i need to do.he won't take responsibility for it.i know i messed up loaning out my boat and dont even think i haven't kicked myself in the butt alot since the insident but i need some advice.i paid 12,000.00 and put 4500.00 in this boat what can i do to make him help fix it is he legally responsile?

Comments on buying a used boat from experienced boaters (especially DIY boaters)? Looking to buy a 17-20 foot used boat. To give you an idea of what style I like, a Sea Ray 180 or Bayliner. Not really into the center consoles like the Mako and Boston Whaler. Boat to be used in the ocean on weekends and stored in a garage on its trailer. Would you go with the straight outboard engine or is a inboard/outboard ok? Have heard the outboards are more designed for saltwater use and the in/out are car engines (and more difficult to work on. What are some things to look for and how old is too old? Been focussing my search on 1998 to current and trying to be under the $12k range with a trailer and the normal accessories. Some Additional information: Boat is being used in Florida in the Gulf of Mexico (salt water). A friend and experienced boater advised me to shy away from the I/O due to corrosion which is enhanced by being in an enclosed space even with the air intakes. I am fairly handy and will do most of the work, but would like to find a newer engine. Thanks for the answers.
