Why does GM make such inferior cars? How can GM hope to compete with Toyota when the Camry is so superior?

Again, my Pontiac Grand Am is going into the shop. GM makes inferior cars, always has, always will. My next car will be a Toyota. It must be the retards at UAW responsible for the mess. Can UAW workers even read and write??

  1. Buy something besides a Grand Am. They are not one of the good ones. They make good cars, you just need to do some research. Why is your car in the shop? Sometimes people say the car is crap when the battery dies, or some other part that is not meant to last forever.
  2. you sound like someone that had there Toyota out run by a Pontiac
  3. GM can compete again after it gets rid of the auto worker's union overhead payments for retirement and health insurance.
  4. GM will never compete because they have an old school philosophy and are run by old school people. The UAW is a waste. They are obsolete but when you embrace yesterdays ideas in the auto world, you fall behind. There's not a GM product out there that is built better than a Camry. Heck, Saturn is GM but they sing to a different tune and have the freedom to run with their ideas apart from the mother company. The only problematic Saturns are the ones they get from other GM product lines. Their own cars are so reliable that they hold their noses up when you mention them even being part of GM. If you've ever owned a Toyota, you'll never be happy with a GM. Warning: If you've made friends with the mechanics that work on your Grand Am, remember to stop by and say hi on occassion after you buy your Camry. That's the only way they'll get to see you.

  6. GM does make good cars, but the Grand AM is what it is -- which is the bottom of the barrell of the Pontiac line-up. While Toyota does build great cars they are not without their share of problems. Just a few years ago the beloved Toyota Camry began suffering engine failures by the thousands -- all because the engineers at Toyota raised the operating temp. of the engines to get better mpg and cleaner emissions. What they didn't consider was the oil capacity, (already very small) and the driving habits of Americans. The oil got way, way to hot and broke down too quickly turning into something akin to chocolate jello pudding, which caused the internal components to melt into slag. Toyota refused to help the customers, even though they were flooded with hundreds of complaints a month. It took a class action suit to shake them into action and they finally agreed to replace most of the affected engines though hundreds of Camry and Lexus 300 owners were not reinbursed for the engines they had replaced themselves. The moral of the story is this: not all cars are perfect, all cars break and you get what you pay for.
  7. Has anyone read De Lorain's book "On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors" ? He goes into detail about problems he encountered while employed there. From the man who brought you the GTO and the Vega , he saw it all. Very interesting book . Maybe nothings changed there in 50 years!
  8. GM made the best CARS when they were still made. Nowadays, nobody really makes anything special, everything is just stuff that comes in different colors, burns gasoline or diesel and gets you around. I mean, who will remember a 2007 Corolla or a 2005 Aveo in 2057? If there will even be any left then. But, find anyone who knows cars even a little, and he/she will probably instantaneously regognize the Classic Chevy, the Dart, the Nova, the Chevelle, the Firebird and all the other classics. And, they damn sure weren't built badly, since well taken care ones still exist and run finely. I have a belief that you won't find a running 2007 BMW or even a 2007 Toyota that will run in 50 years (even if gasoline still exists then), since they're too complicated. I'm not arguing that technology isn't making us more comfortable today, but it will hurt the car's age.
