Hyundai cars...what do you think?
So I'm thinking of buying a Hyundai Tiburon (2003 GT) and I was just wondering what everyone thought about Hyundai. I've never owned one and just wanted to know if they were nice, dependable cars? Thanks!

- there good but they take american jobs away............
- They are dependable now. Wife has a 2001 Sonata and it's very reliable. Just make sure to keep up with your maintenance like any car. I used to sell them when they first came to the US. They were crap then.
- All jap crap is good stuff.
- Some say they take jobs away but Hyundai is bringing alot of business and jobs to the US. They are opening factories in different areas of the country and by doing that, other support corps are opening up too. I have a 2007 Santa Fe and love it. They have good warrenty terms and everyone i have dealt with at the dealerships when asking questions have been very nice and helpful.
- I have two (one is a 2003 Tiburon) of them and have found they are the best cars I have ever owned. That includes Cadillac. And "frankie g" doesn't know anything about Hyundai's .. don't even know what country they are made in.
- Now I see why ppl are so against Hyundais on this forum. Everyone thinks they are taking away American jobs!!! The question wasnt what you think of Hyundai as a company it is what you think of them as a car. As a car, they are great. They are reliable, have a good warranty and are not overpriced like some other manufacturers. I have owned 4 Hyundais and my husband, well, I have lost count!!! As a company they are making jobs for Americans. Its not like they only employ Koreans is it??? What about all the Americans that are employed thanks to Hyundai being in America? What would they be doing otherwise? Back to the question - the Tiburon is a fantastic car and if I didnt have 3 kids I would love a Tiburon (Instead I got a Terracan!)
- I own a 2002 Hyundai XG-350L and love it. People say they have all these problems but they don't take care of their cars. If you get a Hyundai you have to stay up with maintenance or you will have problems.Get it
- I am not big on Korean cars. I drove from Kia Masters to Hyundai Bongo trucks / Van, Ssang Yong, Daewoo and other cars in Korea. Not impressed with the Craftsmanship the same way they build stuff on Korea, is somewhat sloppy. Nah.... I pass on them.
- They are cheaper in cost for a reason- poor depreciation rates, poor reliability and yes they do take away American jobs. Text211 has no clue what he/she is talking about- besides a few jobs they made here by building the Sonata and Santa Fe, all profits go straight to Korean pockets. And all other models are made in Korea by Koreans. I have nothing against any people especially Asian people as I myself am of Asian origin but if we are to survive this economic recession, we need to support our own people first and we do that buy buying American made products as much as possible. Other than that, I would never buy a Hyundai just because its not really a good value in the long run. Who cares if its a little bit cheaper initially but depreciates much faster than all other makes? Really, car savvy people know to avoid Hyundai and KIA. Edit: I have been watching the comments here and there is no doubt that Hyundai dealers are unscrupulously posting false information just to make a sale. That should tell you something about the service you will later get at the dealer. Every comment about Hyundai that is not positive automatically gets a thumbs down no matter what yet SPAM from a Hyundai dealer is given a thumbs up and even celebrated to rave about how wonderful their Hyundais are?! Caution is needed.
- I live in the Washington DC area and Hyundai is pretty popular in this region. Since new management took over in 2000 Hyundai has gone from a car for the poor to one you can drive in style. The Hyundai nameplate has received high marks from Consumer Reports and JD Power in the last couple years, moving into the 10 top. I own the Azera which compares favorably with the likes of the Toyota Avalon, Infiniti G35 and Acura TL. Last year the Hyundai Veracruz beat out the Lexus RX330 in a comparison test and it finished 3rd to the Mazda CX9 and Toyota Highlander for SUV of the year. Depreciation of Hyundai's has also improved with its increased reliability and quality, not too mention they are among the safest cars on the road. Check out yahoo autos or http://www.edmunds.com for reviews from experts and owners. Update, I don't care what brand you buy, if you buy and then trade in your car a week later you will always get pennies on the dollar, you think they are going to buy it back for retail when they can get them at wholesale Steven? Sun Yao Lin gets a thumbs down because she always posts her negative opinion rather then any facts. I always back up my statements with links that you can read. She simply has some motivations to search out all Hyundai questions and try to sell Japanese or American cars to people....and I've only seen 1 Hyundai dealer post on this board over the last year and that guy doesn't even post often or disparage any other brands for personal gain.
- I like my hyundai elantra, it has been a very reliable car!
- Yes, they are very good cars. The only problem I have heard about Tiburons are only for the manual transmission Tiburons. The Clutch wears out much faster in Manual(Stick) Tiburons than in other cars.
- I have a 2007 Hyundai Elantra and it has been great. Before buying it, I read reviews about other cars in its class, such as the Corolla and Civic. I found the Elantra cheaper, has better warranty, and is rated very well by customers. The quality of Hyundai vehicles has improved during the last few years. I remember during the 80's when Hyundai vehicles were considered "disposable". People used to buy them and use them for a few years and then dispose them. But now they are becoming very reliable and very good value for the money. I understand that Hyundai vehicles depreciate more than Toyota's and Honda's but I expect this to change as more and more people realise the reliability and value of Hyundai vehicles. About taking away jobs, I think we are here discussing the value of the car, not the US economy.
- Hyundai is a great car company. I own a 2005 hyundai accent w/37k on it and no problems yet. I don't know if you know this or not but since 2004, hyundai has been ranked third in initial quality right under porsche and lexus. This is my first hyundai and I will continue to be a hyundai owner for life. Good luck with your new hyundai!
- as the owner of numerous hyundai's (no tiburons) I would recommend them. Owned a 2005 Honda civic, bought new, sold it, had alot of problems. (great resale) Have a 2005 elantra Gt-no problems after 66,000 miles (knock-on-wood) Hyundai has a factory in Alabama (gave alot of american's work)
- IMO Hyundai's are near the quality of Japanese cars and equal to them on some levels. Sun Yao Lin - Funny how YOU got the most thumbs down. Are there 11 Hyundai dealers on Yahoo A! now? Or do people know a troll when they see one? I vote the latter
- I have an 05 Elantra , no problems. They ride very smooth . The Tiburon being more sporty is going to ride kinda stiff .
- Talking from personal experience I gotta tell you I've had no luck with Hyundai. I had a 2008 Veracruz that I just traded in for a Buick Enclave and let me tell you the Enclave is far and away better in every aspect. That plus the fact when I traded the Hyundai in I got back pennies on the dollar for a brand new car. Buyer beware! Their warranty has loopholes and issues that I think should be illegal. I got burned by Hyundai I think others should think twice about. Think about it.
- I've owned all different makes of cars, and I swear, my 07 Accent is the most dependable car I've had. I've driven Ford, Mazda, Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi, and this little gas saver. I had a few problems with my earlier vehicles, but so far none with the Hyundai. I'm not a car expert, but I do take really good care of my cars: regular maintenance plus some, and as far as I can tell, that usually makes all the difference. Whatever car you want to buy though, don't forget to take that car to your favorite mechanic first, to make sure everythings above board and you aren't buying a pretty shell that's had the odometer roll twice. :) Good luck!
- Hyundai is made in Korea, not Japan. I have a 2007 Accent and I love it. Great gas mileage and you can't beat the warranty
