Are Hyundai cars really that bad?
Public Comments
- Yeah, Kia & Hyundai is junk.
- No they are just cheap and get good gas milage. If you like it then buy it. They can last along time they don't have enough HP to tear them selves up.
- yes but not really
- duh it isn,t good because it breaks down
- They get good gas mileage, but not the greatest cars...they usually give you a 10 year/100,000 warranty so dont be worried.
- Hyundai is GARBAGE. The average estemate for life of the car is about12.5 years with significant use.
- from my experiece yes I had one and it was all ways broke down piece of crap
- NO........Hyundai has been improving in quality every year since its intro about 15 years ago. They admirably compete with segment leaders from honda and toyo with a cost advantage of 2 to 3 or more, thousand dollars. First company to offer 10year 100000 mile power train warrantee And now Hyundai is introducing the Genesis line in sedan and coupe with v8 and rear wheel drive which will compete with cadillac, bmw, lexus., infinity. HOWEVER.... generaly they are not as light or powerful as other segment leaders.
- NO. All of these answers are completely incorrect and off-base. Like many automakers, Hyundai had some quality troubles in the beginning of their time selling cars in the United States. However, the quality of their cars has significantly improved to Toyota quality*. Their cars are cheaper than the competition, but are very competitive, in fact, MotorTrend did a comparison** of new Hyundai to a Lexus. You'd be surprised at what they said.
- The build quality of Hyundai cars is not on par with the Japanese (honda and toyota) but it seems they have gotten better over the years. Overall I wouldn't recommend one except for maybe the Hyundai Veracruz which i think beat out a Lexus in a test by Motor Trend.
- They WERE, but lately they have been moving up A LOT. So I'd stay away from used(03 and older), but the new ones are fine.
- cuse7112 is right. if you see JD. Power, consumer reports, autopacific and so on. Hyundai dramatically improved... Hyundai is not Hyundai former self.
- Nope, they are very good. The ones made before 2001 are bad, but the ones made after are much better. They are very relaible and have great quality. Hyundai's have some of the best resale values. They also have great gas mileage and they are cheap because they are Korean cars. For the Koreans, a $10,000-$15,000 car is an expensive car, while for the Americans, it is a cheap car.
- No i believe they are the only Korean car company making progress in making there cars better. I have a feeling Hyundai one day will be just as good as Honda
- Hyundai is a very good car company. I can say that because I own a 2005 hyundai accent. It has under 37k on it and no problems what so ever. What I don't understand is, why people keep reverting back to the late 80's and early 90's hyundais. I will admit hyundai did have problems back then. But let me ask you something, you name me a car company that started out new and has never had a problem even to this day. Also, I read something in J.D. Power & Associates that hyundai since the year 2004 to present have ranked 3rd in quality. Right behind porsche and lexus. Also out of 100 vehicles, hyundai has had less problems than toyota and honda. So you tell me if you still think they are bad.
- Absolutely not!!! I bought my Santa Fe at the same time as my friend bought her Toyota...and she is on her second car now. I have NEVER had anthing more than a slow leak in one tire...not Hyundai's fault. I love my SUV.
- personally the ones we have owned-1988 excel gls, 2002 elantra,2003 elantra, 2003 sonata 2004 accent and 2005 elantra have been excellent. the 2005 civic we owned had alot of problems, sold it.
- No, Hyundai's are actually very good nowadays. The longest lasting car I've had is the one I currently drive 01'Elantra 6yrs 130,000 miles. Still going strong.
- No they are very good vehicles. I own a 1996 Hyundai Sonata that has done 254000 kms and have had no major problems. I look after it and have it serviced regular. I have just driven across Australia from Carnarvon to Perth to Canberra and down to Melbourne in 5 days averaging 100 km per hour towing a 6x4 trailer. I averaged very good mileage and very little fatigue. I olny blew 1 radiator hose and 1 headlight globe in the whole trip. I dont think you can go wrong with this model car. It is a 4 cylinder 5 speed manual fitted with cruise control.
- I very much disagree/ I have a 2007 Hyundai Accent that I'm in love with. You really can't put the car down unless you have driven one. They are economical, well made and drive really quiet. I got the car at a good price, too. I'll argue with anyone on the quality of hyundai cars.
