I,m thinking about buying a used Saturn car,i have never had a saturn are they a well made cars?

1. Yeah they are pretty decent. Don't listen to the Japanese car loyalists when they tell you they are crap. They are pretty decent. One of the neatest features is that many of them have plastic body panels. At first, that might sound cheap BUT they did that for a reason. They don't rust AND they don't dent. They are pretty safe too. I know many people with used Saturn's, and they all love them. Go for it!
2. I believe they are a pretty good car now, I don't remember what the first year they came out in, but i do remember reading about the first couple of year ones starting on fire from the engine for no reason when not running.
3. id stick with a japanese car in that segment. Toyotas and lexuses (lexi?) are still the most reliable cars on the planet. no reason to try a manufacturer thats had a sketchy history.
4. I've owned two of them, and I really liked them both.
5. It depends on the car and its past history. Any car that isn't taken care of or has had any kind of serious accident isn't as reliable as one that has. Carfax and a good mechanic's inspection should help you decide. You should also check the recall history on a specific model/year. Some years (like my 2002 Sunfire) have held up great and has never had any type of recall on it. I have personally owned a used Saturn SC2 and had no problems beyond the usual maintance you would expect with a used car. To counter any of the 'American Cars aren't reliable' arguments; my GF has a Nissan Sentra (2000, I think), it breaks down at least once a week. Shes actually going to sell her 90K Sentra and buy my 105K Sunfire. **I'm not saying that Japenese cars aren't reliable in their own respect, I'm just saying it comes down to how well its maintained and any major defects (aka recalls). 6. I live in what you could call Saturn country. Columbia, TN just a few miles from Spring Hill - Saturn plant. There are alot of Saturn cars around here. I know that the early cars were all alike, small cars with one engine option - 4 Cylinder. In my opinion, if I were looking to buy one, it would be a new, since it made the 2007 car of the year list.
