Is it better to try to sell a car using the newspaper or Autotrader?

I live in a huge city. The newspaper is a little more expensive. What has been your experience? Do you get more action from buyers reading the news or reading Autotrader?

  1. craigslist.com, backpage.com
  2. You will probably get twice what a dealer will give you for trade. I think the agressive marketing of their own publication that Auto Trader does is a good reason to select it.
  3. I live right outside Philadelphia and paid extra for a large ad in autotrader to sell my car-I did not get ONE call! I eventually put my car out on a busy street, and honestly, sold it THAT day! Don't waste your money-do try craigslist like the last answer, its free, at least you have a shot, and the newspaper, yep its expensive but so is autotrader-good luck-hope you get it sold!
  4. Your gonna have far more success in the newspaper. The % of people reading the classifieds is far greater than the % of people who pick up a trader and actually look through the entire book. In the newspaper your ad is small, so its very specific, so you'll find the people who are interested in your vehicular specifically! Less hassle too, no need to send photos or think up some sales pitch in your ad. Plus for the person(s) looking for your vehicle the newspaper makes it easier to find. Everything is neatly listed on a page or two by category, and some papers list them by year and or price as well. Traders for me, is simply too much work sifting through it all, and a lot of times there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to how they are listed. Ideally you would do both, if thats not doable newspaper is the way to go in my opinion.
