Can I mix 10W40 oil with 5W30 to get a thinner mix for cold weather? The store has only 10W40 for motorbikes?
Or should I use the 5W30 made for cars?

- NO ....DON'T MIX IT!!!!!! ARE YOU CRAZY!!!
- Likely you should not mix multi-viscosity oils. They are designed to react differently to different temperature ranges. Mixing them could nullify their overall properties and you get something you did not want. the 5-30 would be for extreme cold for autos. Likely you should not use it for a motorbike. Those engines run faster and hotter than regular engines since they are air cooled. When running slowly or idling they do not get the cooling that they do when running faster. That is when they need the higher viscosity oil.
- Just use the 5w30, it will work fine in the winter.
- You can mix oils and the result will be what you want although not a lot of difference. Car oil will work in a bike engine. I used to use it all the time. A 10w will work in fairly cool temps alright, just warm the engine a bit prior to riding (means start and let warm up) to circulate the oil. I used 10W in a car all through the winter in canada (10w30), so it should be fine or change to a 10w30 as that is better (lower top temp). As a note I use 15w40 in my vehicle added to the main 0w40 to thicken so it hangs on the top of the motor better.
- Of course you can. But you may not want to do that. Different oil thickness are made with different additives which by mixing them sometime end up foaming and reducing lubricating properties. Most of the time, same manufacturer's brand oil is mixable with no consequences. Also you may want to consider 5W40 or 0W40 instead mixing. Castrol and Mobil1 synthetic recommended.
- 1st off, without proper diagnostics you cannot get a proper repair...with that being said... 2nd, mixing the different motor oils will not make a difference in whether or not they are going to help your bike out in either hot or cold weather, mainly because they won't mix properly therefore not giving your engine the lubrication that it needs. All you are going to end up with is a lot of foaming inside your engine. 3rd, it doesn't matter whether it's synthetic or conventional oil, Pennzoil or Castrol, take a look at what your manufacturer recommends for the weather rating before you do something drastic. Also you can do a little research and find out for yourself what all the oil ratings mean at most manufacturer web sites. 4th, Do not mix oil for cars with oil for motorcycles, there are different properties for each that aren't compatible with each other. Good luck and hope this helps. For more information you can always visit your manufacturer's web sites.
- mix if u want,,...but unless u are in 10 degrees or less the 10w40 is fine,,,,,or just use the 5w30 for the winter, i use 10/30 in winter and 20/ 50 in summer.
