- Many scooters dont have gears they're just twist and go....for bikes that do have gears its usually a gear lever down at your left foot...........on honda bikes first gear is usually right down at the bottom, then up to neutral then up agrain to 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th etc. Make sure to pull in the clutch before changing gears....also get a lesson before you go jump on a motorbike that you cant ride !! - I would bet you are trying to speed up a Metropolitan II, if so, you are stuck, unless you are rich! CVT transmissions have lots of modifications, but the actual gears are not the way to get the speed, (except Yamaha vino and Zuma). Best way to speed up a Met II is to put in the back of a truck, and drive away, but there are modifications for oh so many! You need to be specific (year make and model), and you will get some great answers and links.
- by definition, a scooter cannot have gears. they operate with a CVT, which is a belt driven variable speed drive. The belt replacement is what I assume you are asking about. you remove the CVT cover, and with the PROPER TOOLS you remove the old belt and put on the new... more complex than I state here, and you can find the procedure on the INTERNET and in numerous scooter forums. If you are really talking about re-gearing the scooter itself, good luck, and I ain't about to get into that other than to say it is a waste of time and effort and I have never seen it done successfully. edit: If you are trying to increase the performance, there are things that can be done, changing weights in your variator, free flow air filters and exhaust, cylinder kits and other things, but re-gearing just is not something you can do on a CVT scooter with a good outcome.
