Is it true USA (American) car dealers used/new will not sell Honda Cars to Canadian citizens? People tell me..
People tell me that this is the case so if you want a Honda out of the USA you have to buy private or at an Auction. Is this true or b.s. I specifically would like to know if this is the case in the MICHIGAN (detroit) area.

- Sounds like nonsense to me. Cash is remarkably persuasive. However, if financing is involved, it could get more complicated; a US financial house won't necessarily have fingers that reach into Canada.
- The cars might not meet Canadian emissions or safety requirements, or perhaps it is the fact that US cars don't have French language. There are some cars that can't be sold to California residents for similar reasons. Note that Canada also requires daytime running lights, and an engine immobilizer. Lastly, Canadian dealers might not honor the warranty of a car purchased in the US.
- You can easily buy it in Detroit, my friend from Windsor just bought a Honda Minivan here in Detroit... You will not easily be able to finance, I think you would have to do a cash sale. Come to the Southfield or Troy Honda dealership.
- In Colorado we can only sell vehicle with a secure government ID. (passport, driver license, Colorado ID card, social secrurity card, birth certificate) Here is the legal info for you!!! http://www.revenue.state.co.us/mv_dir/formspdf/2841.pdf Ok, let me explain this a little better for you. According to Section 326 Of the United States Patriot Act any person buying a car from a car dealer must pull an OFAC report. Here is what it is. http://www.ustreas.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac/sdn/t11sdn.pdf OFFICE OF FOREIGN ASSETS CONTROL SPECIALLY DESIGNATED NATIONALS AND BLOCKED PERSONS This federally mandated by The Untied States Department of Treasury, any dealer violating this law is in big trouble with the Feds. So it's Federal Here is the Canadian Issue: Valid I-94 issued by Canadian government with L1 or R1 status and a valid Canadian drivers license or valid Canadian identification card.
- Read the two links posted below. The manufacturers try to block you, but apparently you can work around it because Canadian Customs is sympathetic to your plight. You might need to get a US friend of yours to buy the car and sell it to you.
