Are Hyundai Cars Considered "Poor peoples cars" or "trashy"???

I was supposed to be getting a mercedes benz but I have decided that would be a stupid move when I know that this being my first car...I'll probably crash it sooner than later. So, I am looking at the Hyundai Sonatas. I want a cute yet not pricey car, and this seems to fit the description. Will I be looked to as a cheap person though? If you have other car suggestions let me know please. Another choice of mine is a mustang. But those arent really "classy" if you know what I mean..

  1. OMG who cares what kind of car you drive? I personally think only "trashy" people waste resources on status symbols or judge others based on their finances. Get a car that works and you can afford
  2. look into the honda accord...same price range but more sporty and still fuel efficient and in my opinion im not too crazy about hyundai's. hope it helps
  3. How the hell is it that you went from Mercedes to Hyundai??? Why dont you consider something in between? Maybe an Infiniti or alteast a Nissan or Honda. Hyundai, because of its past bad reputation, is considered a cheepy car.
  4. Although the Hyundai's started out as rather economical cars, they are now up there with the Honda's and Toyota's of the world. They are consistently rated high by Consumer reports with the Sonatas and Azeras comprising the higher end of the line-up. I would never consider a car that costs 25K+ a "poor people car" or trashy. Obviously, it does not have the status that a Mercedes conjures, but then again, it is not in the same class and neither are Honda and Toyota. To the naysayers that still bring up Hyundai's troubled past, they should also know that there was a time that Toyota and Honda were also cheap, unreliable crap and were laughable, at best. Hyundai is now on par (or pretty darn close) with all the other efficiency brands, and their quality has improved a lot faster than any of the aforementioned brands. If status is what you are after, I would recommend sticking with your first choice of Mercedes or BMW, or Lexus, but if you are looking for a practical, yet comfortable, stylish, and reliable car the Hyundai Sonata is a perfectly good car costing several thousands less than their Honda and Toyota counterpart. Have fun.
  5. Hyundai's are not "cheap, trashy" cars by any means. They are less expensive, but only because they are second rate compared to Honda's. A Hyundai Sonata is a good buy for its price, however it has more on the outside than it does on the inside.
  6. Yeah maybe a 1976 chevy vega wagon...........
  7. No. If it is a new car, you are not cheap. If all people were rich, you still would not be seen as someone who is poor or cheap/ Hyundai's are not that cheap. And they are definitely not trashy. They are reliable and great cars. The Hyundai Azera is just as luxurious as a Mercedes, but much cheaper because it is a Korean car. Koreans think that car is very expensive, but to people in America, it is pretty cheap for all it has to offer.
  8. Buy Cheap look cheap your in the us right? well here in aus we look at Hyundais as piss,y little cars that only p platers drive (provisional license 16+ have these can drive w/out adult but cops hardarse you and all restricitions (no high performance commodores or blah blah blah) but cops dont care seeing a p plater driving a v8 anyway in the us most people see hyundais as poor cars but then again with higher petrol prices those views are starting to change
  9. if i were you i would buy an American car and not some cheap bland hyundai
