- I'm not too keen on the BMW bikes. I think the Japanese have cornered the market with high performance bikes. The Honda CBR for example is so much better looking and performance is lightening speed.
- They are both high quality, finely engineered products. The Germans are scrupulous engineers who will tend to stick to the highest engineering principles. The only downside is that BMW bikes are sometimes difficult to get serviced in small towns, and parts may be expensive. BMW motorcycles are great machines. They have done well in the Dakar rally, but they are mainly outstanding as very fast long distance tourers, at which they excel. (There is no maximum speed limit on German Autobahns). Some of the newer models will give any Japanese, or Italian crotch rocket a run for their money. They tend to be expensive. If you can afford one, buy one.
- It's like riding no other bike in the world. The history and philosophy of BMW motorcycles is about building the perfect rider's machine. It's all about smooth performance and handling. You know the feeling of driving a BMW car and how no others compare to the road feel after wards? It's the same thing with their bikes. Yes you can find cheaper and sometimes faster Jap bikes out there, but none can duplicate what BMW does with their bikes. Most have a drive shaft instead of chain drive which adds to the unique smoothness. All I can say is go to your local dealer and take one for a test drive. You'll be hooked..... No- there are no m-bikes.
- I don't know why anyone even brought up the Japanese and Italian sport bikes. They're not even in the same class as the BMW bikes. However, the K1200 S is the sportiest bike they have, but it's still a sport touring bike. BMW focuses on touring, sport touring, and Enduro/dual purpose bikes.
- Good to consider Difference between cars and bikes number of wheels Built to a standard, usually high, have their foibles R there M bikes Mi bike Mi mates bike Mi other bike No M is for mother me mud money or is it Motor sport? You need to decide what you want to do with it commute, tour, track days, off road, solo 2 up, which ever way you go A BM will do much more than you probably want to do. Mine commutes, tours, does track days, goes off road, solo 2 up, 2 up with camping gear, UK Ireland Europe, been riding BM's for 20 years done 100,000 of miles and apart from 1 tyre blow out, (very interesting) never failed, and I do not ''pootle around''. Done 1500 miles this last weekend 2 up full luggage UK Ireland sun rain gales no prob, just go for it. Check out your local dealer and ride every demo bike there is, then you will know which one suits you best.
