Is there a law regarding noisy motorbikes riding up and down all day?

Can you do anything about stupid idiots riding noisy motorbikes up and down your street all day? There is one such noisy imbecile roaring up and down on a road by our house. Sometimes he has a mate riding with him on this infernal machine. No crash helmets. He is just one noisy idiot! So if we called the police, would they be able to move him on, or what?

Public Comments

  1. report him for not wearing a crash helmet. video it! as proof 4 police he will lose licence and be off the road.
  2. Yes, an ASBO ! The courts can give an ASBO for any antisocial behaviour ! so don't give me a thumbs down !
  3. they must have helmets by law so cops can get them on that alone, they also probably wont have insurance or the license. If the police catch them, they are likely to confiscate the bike.
  4. Some states dont require helmets, like here in AZ. Does he speed? Report him for speeding!! As far as the noise goes he could be cited for "disturbing the peace"..especially if he is doing it after 7 or 8 am in the morning.
  5. No helmet - an offence -bet they haven't got insurance, MOT etc. silencer should keep noise level below 90dB - public nuisance if they are just riding up and down for the sake of it - just report it to the police and keep a log of when they are doing it.
  6. Report it to the Police and also the Environmental Health Department at your local Council as it is a public nuisance. The Police should take action regarding not wearing crash helmets. There have been cases of confiscation of motor bikes for just this sort of behaviour. Good luck.
  7. check for local noise ordnance's or calmly ask a policeman for advice .
  8. If you report it to the police as a series of diarised complaints then they will visit or write and tell them a certain action (I think it's called a section 57) has been noted against that particular vehicle. The next time they are out and are caught in the act by the police the vehicle is consficated.
  9. For sure we can deal with it if you are in the UK. No helmet is a fine to start with, i am guessing however that they are mini motos or trail bikes with no number plate? Even if they are road legal bikes with insurance and mot etc, if they are being used in a anti social manner much like you have described then we can issue a section 59 notice on the vehicle if it is seen again being used in a anti social manner we seize the vehicle and it is destroyed. If the bike is not road legal nor does it have a chassis number like most mini moto then we put a section 59 warning against the users name, dob etc and if they are caught what ever bike they are using is siezed and destroyed. In call contact the police at the first sight of them out and about, most people leave it 30 odd minutes to call when it starts to annoy them and if we are intially tied up by time we get there they are usually gone. So call straight away, we may not catch them the first time but we usually do eventually.
  10. Well it is against the law to ride without a crash helmet and quite rightly so. So yes the police would be able to do something about that. And secondly, if these machines are as loud as you claim then the police will be able to do something about that as well. Motorbike exhausts have to have baffles inside them, if they don't they will be very nosey and very illegal.
  11. Yes! We used to have the same problem where we live. Take down his liscense plate. Video it as proof. He will get dont for not wearing a helmet and noise pollution. It gets on your nerves doesn't it. Hope the problem gets sorted soon.
  12. I hate people like you who call the police for noise, get a life.
  13. there is the noise abatement act, yes call the police, he may not be insured, or have a licence,
  14. no they will only do something if it affects them directly. no policeman living on your road? nothing will happen if you answered no to this point. if you do video the child make sure you have a close up of his face as the police have a habit of stating that video evidence isn't clear enough even though everything else on the tape corresponds to the perpetrator. if nothing happens get the people on your street together and don't pay the police portion of your council tax. This is a scheme that we are trying to put into practice in my area as we have had enough of the pigs just sitting on their arses and pulling people over for spitting on the pavement or something stupid like that - you wouldn't pay sky for not providing you a tv service would you? and i'd like to see them arrest the whole street for not paying their wages
  15. The main problem is being able to catch them at it. Its not easy to pursue a motorbike on foot and certainly where I work, we are not allowed to pursue motorbikes at all due to the safety risks to the rider (health and safety gone mad again!). From what you've said in your question, there are several offences being committed but again catching them at it is the problem. If however they are caught, they can be issued with a warning under section 59 of the Police reform act 2002. This is basically issued to a motorist (or motorcyclist) when their manner of driving is causing harassment alarm or distress. If they don't heed this warning, the next time they are caught, they will have their vehicle seized from them and either sold or crushed.
  16. you could report them if it was all the time and dangerous
