In the 19th century, did state governments own boats
Public Comments
- ya they just didnt have motors
- It only stands to reason that coastal states and states along rivers and bayous had boats. The federal government had a navy.
- It's logical they would have owned ferry's, pilot boats and other boats of various size to support required waterfront and territorial activities. And yes many would have had engines, mostly steam powered. Kerosene and diesel powered engines were even installed in some private boats in the late 1800's.
- Yes, I saw it in my book, "Encyclopedia of Ships."
